I am a serious boater and angler and am amazed with the way technology on the water and even off it has grown over very recent years. The old way of fishing used to be using a map and going out on the water with your compass and trying to locate the places that you want to drop your lines in. The depth of the water and the location of the boat with regard to the reef under the ocean had to be determined by using your local knowledge of the water and boating knowledge in general. The old way made it very difficult for an amateur to get into the sport and get really good at locating the big trophy fish.
These days you do not really have to know a thing about the water or where you are because you can get an electronic device that will tell you exactly where you are and where you want to be. These items will tell you depth, direction and even show you what is swimming below the surface under the boat. Nowadays if you do not have the right electronics you will be left in the dust by everyone else using the right equipment.
There are lots of choices of these devices on the market and they come in all sorts of models with tons of options and in all price ranges. The technology allows you to become a better sport fisherman in a much smaller time frame than ever before.
