Indiana Salmon Fishing - Join The Chinook Fishing And Feeding Frenzy!

    Monday, July 14th, 2008

If you’re seeking salmon in Indiana you’ll head north to the Great Lakes! Lake Michigan, the largest freshwater lake in the US was first stocked with salmon in the late ’60s.

Now this 300 mile long lake and its tributaries have abundant salmon available for the keen sports fishermen who converge on the area during the season. In fact the lake is practically teeming with Chinook (King Salmon), Coho, Steelhead and Lake Trout. Chinook is present in just about equal numbers in Lake, LaPorte and Porter county.

    Take a Kid Fishing

    Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Take a kid fishing and they will learn to be successful in life.
As an avid fisherman for over 30 years I have to look back on my life and consider it a success. I credit that success to my passion for fishing. Why? You ask. Well, I am the youngest of three boys of a single mother. My oldest brother was six years older than I was and loved the outdoors. On occasion he would take me with him and his friends to go fishing. We really had a great time. We caught a few fish, but most of the time we just wound up in a rock skipping contest or swimming.

Bad News for Mimes and Fishing Guides

    Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

O.K., you can stop calling us now.

    It wasn’t us.

By now, most of you have heard that the big winner in the 27 state Powerball lottery, bought their ticket in tiny Jacksonville Oregon.

    Our hometown.

The population of Jacksonville is approximately 3000 people, so I can see how friends and relatives immediately assumed that our household was now trying to deal with the heavy burden of how to disperse the roughly $100 million (after taxes) back into the economy. The arduous task of determining which relatives would be rewarded for laughing at my non sensical jokes over the years, would certainly be made easier by having some ” friendly reminder” phone calls, which would put them at the “top of my mind”.

    Fishing

Fishing is an activity of hunting fish or aquatic animals such as cool water fish, warm water fish, various types of shellfish as well as squid, octopus and turtles with a rod, line and hook. It is a popular, ancient practice involving many techniques and traditions. Also called angling, fishing originated as a means of seeking food for survival.

Fishing traces its roots back to the Mesolithic period that began about 10,000 years ago. It is the major occupation of many coastal inhabitants. The catches vary according to the season and fishing place. Basically, there are three types of fishing - beach, rock fishing, and boat fishing.

    Night Fishing Preparation

    Sunday, July 6th, 2008

I have to admit this subject bores me to tears. Amazingly, the simple fact is that every time I interviewed a fisherman about night fishing tips he mentioned preparation at the top of the list.

As boring as the topic can be, make it a habit to go through this section as a checklist before embarking an a night fishing excursion. I am guilty of forgetting some essentials from time to time - make sure you don’t!
