Make Your Own Fish Bait with Common Household Ingredients

    Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

If you would like to increase the chance of catching more fish in your next excursion, you might want to consider making your own fish bait. Why? If you look at the store bought baits, there are only a few brands. Imagine going to your favorite fishing hole and the majority of the baits cast into the water are from the same company.

The fish won’t have much of a choice but being attracted to the same store bought bait. Now imagine if you brought along fish bait that you made yourself. Your bait will stick out like a sore thumb from the other baits and the fish will seek you out.

Deep sea fishing is an exciting experience, where you’re far out in the ocean and it’s just you, the boat, and the fish. Fishing Unfamiliar & Fly-in Lakes

There is a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment - the pride of craft - that comes with a successful day’s fishing on a new, unfamiliar or fly-in lake, whether it is a limit of bass, a few walleyes for shore lunch, or a trophy pike. Not because putting fish in the boat is the measure of a successful outing, but because that success underlines the fact that the angler has effectively adapted to the existing fishing situations and conditions, making necessary changes in bait / lure selection, presentations and locations. That, in itself, is no small feat, even at fly-in lakes which supposedly teem with naive fish. Let me assure you that we always breathe a sigh of relief (even on fly-ins) after having caught a few fish for that first shore lunch. Once that initial success has been realized, the rest of a fishing trip takes care of itself.

Fly Fishing In High Mountain Lakes

    Monday, April 21st, 2008

There are two types of high mountain lakes: those above the tree line and those below it. Some lakes are at such an elevation that they are above the level where trees can grow. These lakes usually sit at the bottom of a talus slope and offer very little cover for fish. Since these lakes are nutrient-poor compared to their lower neighbors, food is scarce and they tend to have fewer trout. This doesn’t necessarily mean the fishing isn’t good, though. As long as you don’t spook the fish (which can be quite easy), you can take advantage of the scarce food situation. Hungry fish are eager fish. Because of the fierce competition for food, some of these high alpine trout will aggressively attack anything that even resembles a meal.

The "Goofiest" Of All Fishing Trips

    Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

There are a lot of places in this world where one can go to find solace, peace and tranquility while wetting a line for fish.

Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida is not the first place that comes to mind.

Nonetheless, right there beneath the shadow of the Magic Kingdom, amongst wide-eyed roller coaster riders, a stones throw from Tinkerbell’s safety harness, exists one of the prime Largemouth Bass fishing waters you will find anywhere.

    Remote? No.

    Pristine? Hardly.

Filled with hungry fat Largemouth Bass….YES!!

I’m not really sure what compelled me to book a two hour Disney Bass fishing adventure.

    Select Your Fishing Gear Carefully

    Monday, April 14th, 2008

Your fishing gear can help you land the big one, so you should make sure you choose wisely when it comes to lures, reels and rods. It isn’t always the most expensive piece of equipment that wins - you have to present the right lure to the fish in order to get him to bite. Depending on the conditions and where you are fishing, you may want to be sure our tackle box is filled with equipment that will tackle any fishing situation.

The One That Got Away On The Green River

    Monday, April 14th, 2008

Fly fishing can be a surreal experience mending the soul of any person. That is, until you have to deal with the one that got away!

    The One That Got Away

I’ve battled the crowds, seen the masses of fish in the crystal clear water, and been skunked by the some of the most educated trout around on the Green River below the Flaming Gorge Dam. On a float trip last fall, I experienced the true meaning of …The One That Got Away.

Fly Fishing - An Addictive Hobby

    Friday, April 4th, 2008

Fly Fishing is a method of fishing that utilizes an artificial fly, a long flexible rod, a reel, and line. It is a very ancient and distinct angling method, developed primarily to catch trout and salmon but which is now being used to catch other species such as pike, bass, and carp, as well as a wide range of marine species. Artificial flies are crafted and then tied onto a hook with thread, fur, feathers and other materials in different sizes and colors to match naturally occurring insect or simply to attract a fish.

    Drop-Shotting For Picky-Overfished Bass

    Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

There is a fairly new technique when it comes to bass fishing but it works great especially when bass are under a lot of pressure, it’s called drop-shotting. When you see other fishermen using worms and fishing the edges of creek channels, try this and fish the bottom of the channels instead of the edges. It’s also good around boat docks and bridges and in shallow water when the bass are bedding.

When fishing the bottom of a channel try a small worm hook with a 3/16 ounce sinker. If you have one already a bullet sinker you are using for worm fishing works great. Don’t drag the bait or hop it, shake it, you know jiggle it in place.
